The Library
Founded in 1984 from the merger of the book holdings of the Institute of History of the Faculty of Letters and the Institute of History of the Faculty of Teaching, the Library of the Department of Historical Studies (since 2002 named after Giovanni Tabacco, professor of Medieval History at the University of Turin) includes approximately 150,000 monographs and 250 periodicals by subscription, both in paper and online.
In March 2014, following the merger of the Departments, the Tabacco Library also integrated the archeology and history of the territory part of the heritage of the Library of Anthropological, Archaeological and Historical-Territorial Sciences (SAAST). Subsequently, from the heritage of the inter-university territory-environment library, Tabacco also acquired ancient and part of modern geography material.
The Library includes the Tobacco Fund, made up of the professor's personal library (over 4,000 texts) and archival material (manuscripts, draft publications, correspondence), as well as the legacy of the professor's private library. Giorgio Gullini (1923-2004), professor of Archeology and History of Greek and Roman Art at the University of Turin, composed of approximately 1500 documents including books, periodicals and pamphlets.
The Library belongs to Department of Historical Studies.
