Disciplinary resources and book collections

Biblioteca di Scienze letterarie e filologiche del Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici

The library's assets, entirely organised on open shelves in order to allow users direct access to the documents, it consists of over 130,000 texts including monographs and magazine years. The main disciplinary sectors are linguistics, literature and philology, especially of the Romance languages, but many works from contextual disciplines appear: history, philosophy, psychology, geography, economics, sociology, religion, and so on. There is also a specific sector dedicated to books, understood as a physical object, an instrument of culture, a discipline of study.

Among the most important online resources, which can be consulted on the University network, the following are worth mentioning:

  • BIGLLI   General bibliography of Italian language and literature
  • BLE   Bibliography of Spanish literature
  • FRANTEXT   Textual database of French literature
  • IN THE BEGINNING   Incipit index of Latin texts
  • KLAPP   Bibliographie der französischen Literaturwissenschaft

The ancient collection of the library consists of 3000 printed books published between the 16th and 19th centuries.

These rare and valuable works are preserved in the rare room, set up with adequate criteria for good conservation of the material.

The collection was born and developed over time thanks to the will and passion of scholars belonging to the Department of Literary Sciences, who increased the fund by dedicating themselves to research and finding precious specimens from the different disciplinary areas.

The cataloging of the Ancient Fund is almost complete, so all the material is now visible in the University electronic catalogue.

The consultation of ancient books is permitted to scholars upon reservation:
